Lenore's Visit, continued

Evan and Alex in the flowers at Lane Packing

Lenore returned to Chicago earlier today and Will lands at 11:50 tonight. Will reports that his time in Boise went well. I'm relieved to report that we survived the last 6 days. Lenore is probably more tired now than when she arrived. I really appreciated her company and help, and the boys are crazy about her. Tonight, Evan didn't want Mommy to read to him; he wanted Lenore to read Peter Pan again!

Wednesday, we spent time at Lane Packing, a peach orchard & processing plant south of Macon. They have homemade peach ice cream, cobbler, pecan goodies, strawberry goodies, the works. The boys loved playing on the playground almost as much as they loved the ice cream. Unfortunately, the peach processing machinery wasn't running this visit (my favorite part of the trip). The drought in GA caused Lane to lose over 80% of their crop this year!

Thursday, we intended to eat southern cookin' in Juliette GA, but the restaurant closed early. That was too bad, as the fried green tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe are, indeed, fabulous! Juliette is where the movie Fried Green Tomatoes was filmed and I don't think much has changed since the film crews departed. Evan liked to be "in jail" at the Court House, while our attorney friend Lenore sprung him free. Alex watched and pointed to all the cats he could find.

Friday morning, Alex took an unusually long nap (2 hours!) while Lenore and I watched old dance show tapes from our days at Carleton. Ah, memories! Before she left, Lenore baked us a peach pie with Lane peaches. It is delicious. It will be gone tomorrow!

Oh, I wish I could have gone to the Whistle Stop again! Remember we went that very first visit when it was 8 million degrees out!? I still love those pictures! And no, it hasn't changed at all!
