Mercer Homecoming
Mercer's Homecoming basketball game is tomorrow at 1:00 against GA Tech. It should be a great game -- and we are going! The article pasted below is from Mercer's website. Fox Sports will cover it, as well!Tonight, we are taking the kids to a pep rally, bon fire, and fireworks on campus. Then, tomorrow morning is a 5K and an Orange pancake breakfast.
Men's Basketball Ranked No. 1 Nationally in RPINov. 20, 2008
MACON, Ga. – After downing Southeastern Conference opponents Alabama and Auburn in a four-day span and starting the 2008-09 campaign with an unblemished 3-0 record for the first time since 1984, the Mercer men’s basketball team has been rewarded with the top spot in CollegeRPI.com’s rankings.
The College RPI takes into account a team's winning percentage (25%), its opponents' winning percentage (50%), and the winning percentage of those opponents' opponents (25%) when ranking every team in the nation. The Bears check in ahead of every traditional Division I roundball powerhouse in the country for the first time since the inception of the Ratings Percentage Index in 1981.

A Limp
Evan has been limping for two days. At preschool today, Evan's classroom teacher and his PE teacher noticed that he was not his usual running-jumping-self. I suspect that he pulled a muscle jumping in the leaves, but we will keep an eye on it.
When I ask him what happened, he has a different reply each time. My two favorites: 1) I am transforming; 2) Alex zapped me.
Here is our conversation in the car earlier today:
A: Evan, do you think you might have pulled a muscle in your leg?
E: (laughter erupts) MOMMY! How do you pull a muscle when you have SKIN?

Gray Squirrel
Last night at dinner, Alex started singing a sweet song I'd never heard before:
Gray Squirrel
Gray Squirrel -- wag your tail!
Gray Squirrel
Gray Squirrel -- bushy tail!
(and so on, including cute little hand motions)
I let him sing for some time; his tiny voice was soft and sweet and although I could barely understand him, I loved it.
Then, like a needle scratching across a record, Evan announced in a loud, clear voice, "Alex, your squirrel just died and went to Heaven."

Jump!
With Will in CA and all of us sick, I was dreading a long Saturday stuck in the house with Evan, Alex and many many germs. Instead, we had a fabulous morning of playing outside in the yard. The boys played together so well; I was proud of them. The leaves were wet from two days of rain, but it didn't matter. The leaf pile could have been bigger -- but that didn't matter, either. On this beautiful fall day, I'm thankful for the excuse to slow down and enjoy a morning of doing "nothing."

That old familiar sound
This morning I was both irritated and elated to discover that my car's windshield had a thin layer of ice on it. I found our scraper and chipped away. That old familiar scratching sound was like music to my ears as I was flooded with happy memories of home and the holidays. I cleaned every square inch of that glass.
The car is parked outside again tonight; I'm hoping for another frost.
(Of course, part of my enjoyment is in realizing that later in the day, it will be in the 60s... I'm not totally crazy.)

School Pictures
Here is a link to Evan & Alex's school picture proofs. I can't decide! Steve Schroder was the photographer and he did a great job!

Daylight Savings
As if it weren't bad enough that Alex has been waking up at 5:40 a.m. lately....
Today, by 6:00, we were eating breakfast, trying to read the paper, partaking in the usual morning rituals when... we realized it was only 5:00 a.m. And the really bad news? The kids won't nap. We've been trying for the last hour. We are in for a LONG day!

Thanks for the new jackets from Vail, Gramie and Bapa!
